Palea Istoria (Mezedopolio)

Mitropoleos & Dendrinou Corner, Ammos-Marasia, 85100, Rhodes (East side of town) Tel. 0030 22410 32421

Taking the East road from Rhodes old town and heading towards Kallithea and Faliraki you will come to this delightful restaurant called Palea Istoria (Old Story). Why this name for a restaurant remains a mystery. Will cordially greet you making you feel as much at home as can be. There is a charming little balcony half way round the restaurant with extremely romantic Greek old type music in the background. Start with slices of garlic bread and a few delicious orectica, then some pommes dauphinoise and a salad, all beautifully presented and (apart from the salad) cooked to perfection. Ambience, sincere exquisite service and food at reasonable prices are very hard values to find, unless you happen to live in Rhodes and eat at Palia Istoria. A most professional and entertaining restaurant.

This is one of the best restaurant in Rhodes, well worth the ten-minute cab ride (or 25-minute walk) into the New Town south of Diagora Stadium. Most of the clientele is Greek drawn by the subtle cuisine and lalk of tourists. We had unusual mezedes (appetizers): a finely chopped beet salad, lightly fried zucchini, a true country salad with potatoes, olives, and tomatoes, fried saganaki (fried cheese), then a fluffy greens and cheese souffle delicious meatless dolmades and a moist and tender roast pork with potatoes. A feast indeed.
